What it Means

The first two columns to the right (yellow and green), list only plain-text words. Plain-text words are those words which are not within the angle brackets of an HTML tag. For example, the words between the TITLE - /TITLE tag pair are listed; but the words TITLE and /TITLE are not listed.

Yellow Column

      Count of the number of uses for each plain-text word in your file. Most, of course, are the unimportant words; but you should have all of your relevant words listed in the left column as being used at least several times, but do not stuff your page. Twenty is probably too many for a medium sized page.

     You may use the buttons to order additional services using the checked words.       Make sure your relevant words are used often within your text and headers.

Green Column

      Counts of plain-text words in the first 3000 bytes of your file. Many engines weigh these heavily when indexing your page, with added emphasis placed upon words that also appear within the meta tags. Some engines do read beyond this, others do not. Some engines only read the head section, though that is rather abused these days. Most serious engines now place more weight upon the plain-text words at the top of the page.

      A second factor to consider, is that these words will also be the first words seen by your visitors. Do they convey the message that this page has what they seek? If not, someone else's page is just a click away.

      Make sure your most important words appear in the yellow column with more than just a single use.

Red Column

      Words from within HTML tags of the upper 3000 bytes. This will include the contents of your keyword meta tag and description meta tag. Thus, you should see your most important words in all three columns, with the most important words appearing two or three times in the right column. If your most important words appear more often because they are in the meta keyword tag several times, search engines could consider this keyword spamming and downgrade your rank under those words.

      The red (right) column also includes contents of advertising type meta tags left by common tools, as well as font, table, image, and other HTML commands which search engines ignore. This excess tag baggage crowds out plain-text words from the upper 3000 bytes of your page (green column).

      Note that many search engines limit the meta keyword tag to about 1000 characters, and the meta description tag to two or three lines. If you have near that many keywords, you probably should have the content of the page broken up into several more focused pages, each of which will rank better on its reduced keyword set.

      The plain-text keywords in the green column validate keywords in the red column, boosting rank for those words. Miss or abuse them, and you page will smell like search engine spam, lowering your search engine rank.

      Make sure your important words appear only one to three times in the red column; once in the meta keyword tag, and for the most important few words, once or twice in your meta description tag.

      Do not waste your most important space on excess tag baggage, stuffed meta tags, or meta tags advertising someone else's tools.

The Bottom Line

      The bottom line is: you need your most important words in all three columns, where they balance your appearance to the search engines. No amount of keyword meta tag stuffing can replace real text in real paragraphs.
